Getting Around, Callao Travel and Callao Transport
(Callao, Peru, PE)
The port of Callao is served by a range of transport, including buses and the famous Ferrocarril Central Andino railway. This is actually one of the world's highest railway lines and trains travel from Callao to almost 5,000 metres / 16,400 feet above sea level.
Callao is also home to its very own airport, the Jorge Chávez International Airport, which serves the entire Lima region and has long been Peru's premier international and domestic air facility. The Jorge Chávez Airport is just 16 km / 10 miles from downtown Lima and the main point of entry for the majority of tourists heading into Peru, serving almost eight million passengers annually and offering various travel options. Minibus 'combi' transport is available at Callao's airport, along with a very limited train service travelling into Lima.

Callao Travel and Transport: Callao Car Rental - Callao, Peru, PE
Both Callao and Lima are hectic cities and whilst 24-hour car rental is available at the Jorge Chávez Airport, many holidaymakers simply prefer to use public transportation, or hire a car with a driver. However, driving around in your very own set of wheels will allow you to properly explore this part of Peru at your own pace. Be warned that the roads to Huancavelica can be uneven and rather dusty at times, and parking in central Lima is very difficult.
